Nasa Launches Space Probe For First Successful Fly By of Mars In 1965

National Aeronautics and Space Administration, (NASA) Launches Mariner 4
History was made beyond our world on July 14-15 1965 when NASA launched the first successful fly by to Mars. The mission of Mariner 4 was to send back close-up images of the planet Mars. Not much was known about the surface of  Mars at that time and it was hoped that the images sent back would reveal an environment suitable for life as we know it.

Images sent back from mars showed a different environment.
The black and white images sent back  from Mars revealed a dry, rocky, and heavily cratered surface, similar to that of our  Moon instead of the “second” Earth scientists hoped to see. The dream of Martian canals and green valleys disappeared into a new era of a real planetary exploration.

What happened next?
Mariner 4 kept transmitting engineering data until 1967, when NASA officially ended the mission. The spacecraft is now floating in deep space but has opened the doors to future explorations of other planetary knowledge and our universe.

This mission changed how we see Mars and proved we could reach beyond Earth and gather knowledge that reshapes our future.

A great reminder for kids and adults alike:
Curiosity and imagination leads to new discoveries and advances in technology.
