Images sent back from mars showed a different environment.
The black and white images sent back from Mars revealed a dry, rocky, and heavily cratered surface, similar to that of our Moon instead of the “second” Earth scientists hoped to see. The dream of Martian canals and green valleys disappeared into a new era of a real planetary exploration.
What happened next?
Mariner 4 kept transmitting engineering data until 1967, when NASA officially ended the mission. The spacecraft is now floating in deep space but has opened the doors to future explorations of other planetary knowledge and our universe.
This mission changed how we see Mars and proved we could reach beyond Earth and gather knowledge that reshapes our future.
A great reminder for kids and adults alike:
Curiosity and imagination leads to new discoveries and advances in technology.
